Current “Spark” Programs
“Spark” matches anyone with a great idea for a local event, attraction, or unique experience with the funding and mentorship to bring it to life.
Our goal is to inspire and encourage creative projects that give locals and visitors new reasons to explore our vibrant communities. By partnering with municipalities, tourism groups, and local businesses, we’re able to bring these funding opportunities to communities across Ontario.
Eligibility
“Spark” encourages entries from individuals and grassroots groups! There is no requirement for a business number or prior experience in tourism.
Each program will have specific eligibility criteria related to theme or region. Additionally, applicants must :
- Be 18 years or older at the time of application
- Employ no more than 10 full-time employees, if applying as a small business or non-profit organization
We understand that busy operators don’t have time for lengthy applications, so we strive to keep it simple: 10 questions about your project, and a 1-minute selfie-video (shot on your phone!) to introduce yourself to our review jury. A shortlist of finalists are then invited to pitch their idea to a panel of judges, who will determine the ultimate recipients.
Those chosen by our judges are eligible to receive:
May change based on program specifics
- 3 month mentorship with a tourism innovator, experienced operator, industry leader or sector expert, custom-matched to your needs
- Seed funds to support tourism idea development activities
- Tech adoption support and advisory services
- Additional partner support and resources
- Access to a network of tourism innovators, entrepreneurs and leaders
“Spark” programs are bounded by region, topic, or both, but we’re frequently offering new ones! Check out our upcoming and active programs below.
