Hackforge’s focus on community-building comes out in multiple ways, including publicly accessible community projects like the ones below.

WindsorEssexCycling.ca

This project began in February 2022 thanks to funding from The City of Windsor Bicycle Committee (RIP), The County Wide Active Transportation System (CWATS), The Tourism Innovation Lab, and Parallel 42 Systems.

We worked with the local tech and cycling communities to determine what features would be most useful in a web-based cycling app. This consultations lead to the building of a safety-based routing system, which strives to find the best route between 2 points based on the availability of cycling infrastructure.

Version 2 of this app is set to be released in early 2024.

Queer Walk

This project began as a collaboration between the Windsor/Essex Rainbow Alliance, Parallel 42 Systems, and Windsor Hackforge, with hiring support from Trans Wellness Ontario.

Queer Walk offers users to chance to embark on a self-paced walking (or driving!) tour of Windsor’s 2SLGBTQIA+ history. It includes photos and text explaining the historical significance of various places around the city. There is also the option to review the content from the comfort of home.
