This internship opportunity is presented as part of the “Digital Skills for Youth” program coordinated by the Independent Media Arts Alliance and funded by the Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada.

This is an opportunity for under-employed or unemployed Canadian youth to learn technical and soft skills that will make them a competitive candidate in the current labour market.

Windsor Hackforge is looking for a tech-minded individual to support the organization’s operations. We’re calling this internship position our “Techie in Residence,” a role which will involve the management and maintenance of various hardware, software, and web applications – with training and guidance, of course.

Working closely with the Managing Director and members of the Board of Directors, the Techie in Residence will learn about the systems and applications Hackforge uses every day. These systems will include (but are not limited to) WordPress,  physical and virtual infrastructure, and customer relationship management systems.

The ideal Techie in Residence is a current student or recent graduate of a computer science, computer systems technology, or similar program.

The applicant is not expected to have experience in all of the technologies mentioned above, but must be prepared for on-the-job training, self-guided learning, and hands-on experimentation.

Someone who is self-motivated, naturally curious, and passionate about technology will thrive in this position.

The successful candidate will have the chance to learn from experienced industry professionals and to build their resume. They will learn the technical and soft skills that will make them a competitive candidate in the current employment landscape.

This internship will set the participant up for a career managing the IT needs of small to medium sized businesses and not-for-profits.

This is an in-person position. The Techie in Residence will need to be physically present in our Downtown Windsor office. As such, the successful candidate will need to be a resident of Essex County or the City of Windsor, and have access to transportation.

Required Competencies: English (both written and spoken)
